The trip starts by Øygardstøl/Kjerag Panoramic Restaurant. Here you will find a parking facility and bathrooms for the tourists.
The route starts just by the Kjerag Panoramic Restaurant on Øygardstøl. The trek will start with a 30 minute steep ascent on slippery terrain up to a 825 meter mountain top. From this top you will follow the ridge of the mountain a little while, until you go down along a creek to approximately 750 meter. From here you will start your second ascent up to around 870 meter above sea level. The ascent will be somewhat more demanding than the previous one and you will have to climb a bit. You should estimate around 30 minutes till you arrive at the top which you should cross. Now you should prepare for the last ascent to Kjerag, this time also up slippery terrain up the mountain. Estimate around 30 minutes for this climb. As you arrive at the top the terrain will flatten and you should be able to cross the 1,5 km plateau. By the end of this plateau you will cross a broad crevice before arriving at the cairn by Nesatindane, showing you the way to Kjeragbolten, amon other destinations. From here it is ca. 3 minutes walk to Kjeragbolten, lodged between two approximately 1000 meter mountains in the Lysefjord. If you are brave, step onto the rock. This has, for a long time, been a popular destination for base jumpers and climbers and if you are really lucky you might witness a base jump from one of the spots close to the bolt.
The second part of the trek goes from Kjerag to Langavatn. Go back towards the cairn by Nesatindane and follow the markings towards Langavatn from here. The path will go towards the south-east up the mountain side, paralell with the crevice going down to the Kjeragbolt. You arrive at the top at around 1075 meters above sea level bedore turning downwards towards the lush valley. When you have arrived at the bottom of the mountain you will arrive at two paths crossing. Take to your right here, to the top of the U-valley where you will arrive at another crossroads. Here you should turn 90 degrees to the left and climb up another hill. Estimate around 10 minutes for this ascent. The trek will continue at around 1143 meters to the south-east. Aim for the cairn on the top. It can be a smart to adjust your compass for navigation from the cairn on the top as everything will look the same up here. Estimate an hours walk over the plateau until you can start the descent towards Langavatn Tourist Cabin.
